Over the past few years either while on the road with VOW Allstars or just on visits, I have had many conversations with Big Chief Monk Boudreaux about the blues. You see, Monk has been singin the blues for a long time already, its just wrapped in his unmistakable funk laden indian beats.......just listen to his lyrics.........So when I saw Monk after he returned from a recent blues cruise, and he told me about how one night on the cruise, he sat in for a few hrs late one night with a couple guys playin some stripped down blues, just him, his tambourine, a harp player and guitar....this is exactly what we had talked about him doin sometime, when the time was right..........For maybe the second time last Sunday, Johnny Sansone, John Fohl, and Big Chief Monk Boudreaux put on a low down, story tellin , stripped down blues show aptly entitled “Indian Blues”, each literally pouring it out on stage for more than 2 hrs. I arrived over at Snug Harbor between the 8 and 10 pm show and not surprisingly the early show attendees were very vocal about the show, how they had never seen anything like it......no surprises here.....only in New Orleans can you dream up combinations of musical styles and musicians, and then have them organically develop before your eyes.......somethin thats been goin on here for a long long time........Keep your eyes out for the next installation of “Indian Blues”, you don't want to miss it......trust me.....
