John Mooney and Alvin Youngblood Hart at Tipitinas May 31st 2014

It was quite a treat at Tipitinas over the weekend with John Mooney joining Alvin Youngblood Hart and Muscle Theory for a serious guitar slingin double bill. I've been getting my musical medicine from John Mooney since back before his “Sunday Church” shows over at Madigan's every Sunday way back when, and my man hasn't lost a step and was bringin in hard, foot stompin hard, to a mesmerized crowd at Tips........there aren't many people who could go on after the exhibition Mooney put on, but Alvin Youngblood Hart is one of them......I don't know who was the appetizer and who was the entree, but both were delicious......dessert was served during AYH's set when Mooney joined him on stage where they just slayed it together. And for a little more lagniappe, Colin Lake also joined AYH for a tune or 2, followed by Brent Johnson........some serious guitar slingin went down at Tips Saturday night. John also just released a new CD , John Mooney – Son & Moon: A Tribute to Son House, probably Mooney's most influential mentor.....It's an amazing CD and a must have for any fan of the blues....pick it up!!!
