Big Chief Monk Boudreaux was especially flammablee onstage from the get go last Saturday night at d.b.a. on Frenchmen St. backed by Colin Lake on Guitar, Bill Richards on bass, Chris Spies on keys, Kerry Vessell on percussion, and a monster on the drums, Doug Belote. Monk was also joined onstage throughout by “Honey” Bannister and Second Chief Joseph Jr...Before the show we were talking backstage about sewing, and Monks preferred techniques,(I always wondered why no matter how windy it is, Monk never seems to be worried about anything comin loose....), so I knew something was up when the band ripped into a killer version of “Sew, Sew, Sew” on the second or third song. That one is normally played second set.......and probably the best version of “Shotgun Joe” I've heard, second only to a night long ago at the old Rock'n Bowl during a Wild Magnolias reunion.......
