I must have driven by the familiar “King Neptune” dozens of times over the years.....knowing one day by chance there would be a deserving storm cloud formation to fulfill the composition I had in mind. Some natives may remember “King Neptune” actually “guarded” the south entrance at the 1984 Worlds Fair. “Neptune”, aka “Old Man River, the River God," was aptly renamed by Blane Kern when the piece was moved to its longtime home on Tchoupitoulas St at the entrance to what is presently Mardi Gras World on the East Bank. Hopefully the River God and his long lost brother Poseidon will protect us from the sea for at least the rest of this eerily quiet “season”.........Jerry ;-) A collection of New Orleans Scenes and much more can be viewed at http://www.nativeorleanian.org/new_orleans_scenes
