Most pleasant surprise over Super Bowl weekend was yesterday's show with the beautiful and amazing Charmaine Neville who looks and sounds better than ever!! Knowing everything Charmaine has gone thru health wise in recent past, this show was just a sight to behold and left me with big smiles……Charmaine's back in a BIG way!! Saturday_
Something I have been wanting to see for a while is the Dirty Dozen Brass Band at d.b.a. On Frenchmen St., for some reason or another, each time that has happened in the past I have been on other jobs so I was really happy to see it fall into place on this night. And all of my suspicions were confirmed, The Dirty Dozen filled dba with that signature sound they put out peelin the paint of the wall of the joint. A match made in heaven with the quality sound system at dba, more than decent lighting and that sense of musical intimacy that dba provides is second to none.....the joint was a rockin!! Friday-
Awesome day and night of music over at “Super Bowl Boulevard” yesterday, caught Walter Wolfman Washington, Dwayne Dopsie and the Zydeco Hellraisers, James Andrews and Co., and Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue. I think it's safe to say that most of the people here for Super Bowl that are not familiar with our culture were literally blown away as each stage I went to all I would hear was “these guy's are so f'n great”, most of the time the same people......kinda funny and nice at the same time. Also went down to dba on Frenchmen St. and caught the Dirty Dozen Brass Band who basically peeled the paint off the walls. I had never seen the Dirty Dozen at dba and have been wanting to for a while.....needless to say they exceeded all expectations with an all out Brass Band assault on the many DD Virgins in the house.....I'll get to the pics as I have time but we'll start with Trombone Shorty....Happy Super Gras!!! Thursday-Last night I hit the streets lightly with Alex to go check out the Super Bowl happenings in da Quata.....It was immediately evident that the French Quarter has taken on an appearance I've never seen before, and won't again anytime in the near future. What a great place for Baltimore and San Francisco fans to come for a Super Bowl Gras. It was pretty cool seeing the huge Super Bowl Roman Numerals float down the river on a barge while being showered by a fireworks display which seemed to be never ending followed by 3 Stages of N'Awlins Music on Super Bowl Boulevard(aka Woldenberg Park) which will continue all weekend nonstop with more stuff to do down towards the convention center, perhaps I'll make it down there this weekend. After a quick stop by New Orleans Hamburger and Seafood on Toulouse and Decatur to drop off business cards(Thats one of the fine establishments in the area where I have extensive installations of my artwork, others being Whiskey Blue at the bottom of the “W” on Poydras, The entire upstairs banquet room at ACME Oyster House on Iberville in da Quata and one of the finest music clubs and bars in New Orleans, d.b.a. on Frenchmen St., and of course at my gallery in the Bywater 5 minutes from the quarter, call for appt. anytime 504-201-2202), had a nice dinner over at Mona's the caught the last half of Jon Cleary(dessert) at dba. Should be an interesting weekend for sure, to all visitors have a great time and enjoy our home, spend yo money, have fun, be safe, go see and support LIVE local music. I'll be adding pics here over the weekend as time allows....... Happy Super Gras!!!
