Last Saturday, I was able to sneek out to the inaugural Landing Fest which was held on the shores of Lake Pontchartrain all weekend.
The Landing Festival is produced by
Tipitinas and
Galactic, and will surely become a mainstay on the local festival circuit. I was able to catch about half
Anders Osborne and
The North Mississippi Allstars aka N.M.O., (First time see'n N.M.O., very cool colab.) with special guest Johnny Vidacovich.......definitely need to catch these guys again. Also caught The Soul Rebels Brass Band,St. Paul and the Broken Bones, along with
CAKE(Awesome Show!) and finally, my favorite band of the day, the highly charged
Eagles of Death Metal(A MUST SEE) touring in support of their new CD “ZIPPER DOWN”, whipped the crowd into a Rock and Roll thrash frenzy.....got some pretty choice captures of these guys live which should give you an idea of what they are all about.....The fest was set up nicely with areas for Food Trucks, Craft Beer Lounges with TV's for Football addicts et al.......The VIP areas were awesome also offering massages, catering, multiple bars and more.....Sunday was impacted by a deluge that lasted till mid afternoon, but the fest adjusted, shortened the schedule and got things kicked off with
David Shaw and Zach Feinberg of the Revivalists mid afternoon ending with headliner
Grace Potter. If we can put in an order for nice weather for the entire weekend for next years fest, attendance will grow exponentially.......either way The Landing Fest appears to be here to stay......See ya next year!!
