January 26, 2017  •  1 Comment

Here are a few pics, and a short video from the closing reception for the group photography exhibition “Preserving New Orleans Second Line Culture” on January 26th 2017 at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation Gallery at 1205 Rampart Street in New Orleans. The exhibition was actually scheduled to end 12/19 but was extended for an additional month!! Special thanks to Charles Lovell for putting the exhibit together and to MJ Mastrogiovanni for setting up the catering with Big Chief James Onsite Catering(I’m still having dreams about the “Bisque”...) and having Da Truth Brass Band perform at the closing, which was pretty damn special.......and of course thanks to all who attended and and the Jazz and Heritage Foundation!! Smith and Jules Cahn from the Historic New Orleans Collection, and by John Messina and Eric Waters from the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation Collection. The exhibition is organized by Charles M. Lovell, volunteer curator for the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation Gallery.

The history of New Orleans second lines and social aid and pleasure clubs is directly linked to traditions of African American cultural practices including brass bands, jazz funerals and African dances that date back over two centuries to Sunday celebrations in Congo Square. Through the exhibition, Preserving New Orleans Second Lines Culture will bring to the New Orleans public and visitors to our region a greater understanding of the importance of these rich cultural traditions by showing some of the best contemporary and historical photography representing the subject.

I also have work on display at the AMAZING  “Louisiana Photography Biennial” Photo Exhibit which is still running thru November 19th, if you haven't been yet, try and get down there before the show closes.
