Photo Shoot for Jesse Moore Live at The Old Point CD
These are the final images picked from a photo shoot with Jesse Moore for his soon to be released cd, Live at The Old Point(Threadhead Records). Working with Jesse on this project was more fun than work, as most are, but the professionalism he brings to the table, along with being a consummate gentleman were icing on the cake!! Photo Shoot with Sam Williams Big Sams Funky NationThese are some of the images from a photo shoot I did with Sam Williams of Big Sam’s Funky Nation in my photography studio this week. We spent a few hrs taking a series of shots while listening to an incredible Meters recording live at Tips earlier this year which set a nice pace with an added bonus for me listening to Sam play along to some funky Meters grooves……;-) I was also able to do some studio shots of Sam with an infrared camera of which a couple are in here, been wanting to do this for a while for obvious reasons. While up in New York last month to receive my Ocean Inspiration award from Ocean Inspiration Winners of “Ocean Advocate” Awards the awards ceremony Ocean Inspiration: A Tribute to Jacques Cousteau’s 100th Anniversary…..Awesome night!! Pictured here are Hasley Burgund, Celine Cousteau, David Guggenheim, and Jerry Moran….here is a link to the awards, http://www.wri.org/press/2011/05/media-alert-ocean-inspiration-announces-winners-ocean-advocate-awards , and the work I reveived the award for I had the opportunity to catch Kermit Ruffins the night before and shoot the Jazz Foundation of America’s “A Great Night in Harlem’” which was held at the Historical Apollo Theater. After Kermits show on Tuesday I mat met a new friend, Rob Craddock. Robert just happened to be organizing acts for the Jazz Foundation of America’s “A Great Night in Harlem’” which was held at the Historic Apollo Theater, one thing led to another and the next thing you know I am shooting this unbelievably special event at the Apollo Theater. Felt right at home to in the company of Kermit, Dr. John, Deacon John, the Hot 8 Brass Band, photog cohorts Dino and Allison and more…….almost like I never left home. A great article written by Dino Perrucci can be read at this link. As Dino states, “The most emotional moment of the night came when The Hot 8 Brass Band from New Orleans took the stage. Shortly after Hurricane Katrina, trumpet player Terrell Batiste lost both of his legs in a roadside accident and has performed in a wheelchair ever since. On Thursday night for the first time since before Katrina, Terrell walked onstage with his new prosthetic legs that the Jazz Foundation helped provide. Kermit Ruffins then joined the Hot 8 onstage for the remainder of their set. They all remained onstage and were then joined by Dr. John and Nicolas Payton. After the Lou Reed/Macy Gray finale inside the Apollo, Deacon John, Davell Crawford and others performed at the after party in a tent behind the Apollo. This years goal for the Foundation is to raise two million dollars and you can still donate.” Could not have dreamed this one up if I tried, needless to say it was a wonderful evening and after party not soon to be forgotten. For 22 years the Jazz Foundation of America has been the only national organization dedicated to saving the homes and lives of elder jazz and blues musicians who have no where else to turn. Kermit Ruffins at the Highline Ballroom May 17 2011While up in New York last month to receive my Ocean Inspiration award from the Cousteau’s, I had the opportunity to catch Kermit Ruffins the night before the awards ceremony at the Highline Ballroom in New York City. Really nice time as I was able to eat a wonderful dinner on the balcony with Alex and enjoy an incredible show put on by Kermit and company……and of course snap a few frames off throughout the night, only had my 24-70mm lens but it worked out fine.
