Was able to get out late last night to go check out Papalactic last night at One Eyed Jacks, wanted to go see the Dirty Dozen at dba too but was dealing with a nasty headache that didn't let up till midnight. Papalactic's members are Papa Mali, Stanton Moore, Robert Mercurio, Robert Walter and last night joined by Big Chief Donald Harrison Jr., who is the main reason I went cause I had a good idea of what he would bring to the table,..... and I was right. Some of my favorite shows in memory are the bands resembling a musical gumbo mixing all the textures we have to offer, and this one sounded delicious. The best part of these types of shows where basically a mixture of New Orleans musical icons jam together id watching the respect and admiration on each members face while the others are playing,......priceless. I recently had the same experience at Anders Christmas shows at Tips a couple weeks ago, amazing stuff for sure. It didn't hurt that Big Chief Monk Boudreaux joined onstage for what I believe was “Bury the Hatchet”. Two Big Chiefs onstage with that band backing, ouch! Very cool show indeed....enjoy the pics.
