After a night with Papa Grows Funk, Glen David Andrews and Big Chief Monk Boudreaux last Friday, I closed the weekend Saturday night at Tipitinas with and incredible show featuring Leo Nocentelli’s “The Meters Experience” with Bill “The Buddah” Dickens on bass(he was killin it all night), Jamal Bati…ste, and CR Gruver. Opening up was the Iko Allstars with Billy Iuso, CR Gruver, Mean Willie Green and more playin a series of killer Grateful Dead tunes….they had the joint rockin when I arrived about halfway through the set. Leo’s 2 set show was stellar as usual. I always know I had a great time when I wake up the next day hearing Leo’s guitar riffs bouncing around in my head till early evening. Enjoy the Pics!! What a busy weekend for music, caught a few great shows last Friday at Tips Uptown with Papa Grows Funks and Glen David Andrews, nice double bill…….what initially caught my attention was Glen playin over at Tips…..don’t think I’ve ever seen him there and I was not disappointed. I also haven’t seen Papa Grows Funk at night in a club in a long while, living a few blocks from dba tend to keep be in the hood! I was really impressed with both shows, especially PGF, who kicked off the set with what only can be called an evil version of “Pass It”. Hung around for a few more and then headed down to Blue Nile for Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, pics to come on that show. What I do regret kinda is not staying for the 3rd set, which Glen promised at the end of his set…..I am sure it was memorable having both bands up at one, as Glen said, “This was the battle of the Monday night bands(Glen holds court at dba on Monday’s and PGF at the Maple Leaf), were gonna combine forces for set three and melt you like buttah!” I am sure it was incredible…..enjoy the pix!! Late last December I had the distinct pleasure of joining the Royal Southern Brotherhood, Cyril Neville, Mike Zito, Devon Allman, Yonrico Scott and Charlie Wooten, for a couple days at Dockside Studio to do cd and marketing photo shoots while the final touches were put on the bands soon to be released (May 9th) debut cd. This is a collection of images from that shoot, excluding some of the best, and of course my favorites, which will be used for the cd design and inlay booklet and marketing of the band. As soon as they are released by the label, I’ll post on my site. Regardless, I think you get the picture. Don’t have much to say about the new cd except get ready for some fiya!!
