A few years ago on one of my visits with Mac, we were talkin about dreams/spirituality(go figure.....)......eventually Mac told me about  dreams he had where the spirit of Louis Armstrong would drop in and tell him to do an album of Armstrong songs, but his way........ , hence the inspiration of Mac making a tribute to Satchmo album of Louis Armstrong songs..... dr_john_spirit_of_satch_joy_theatre_jm_092014_016dr_john_spirit_of_satch_joy_theatre_jm_092014_016A few years ago on one of my visits with Mac, we were talkin about dreams/spirituality(go figure.....)......eventually Mac told me about a dreams he had where the spirit of Louis Armstrong would drop in and tell him to do an album of Armstrong songs, but his way........ , hence the inspiration of Mac making a tribute to Satchmo album of Louis Armstrong songs.....For many reasons over the years(since the 70's if my memory serves me correctly) including “life”, no buy in from record companies, and more “life, this album/CD was never cut......... I remember the passion with which he talked about the “Satchmo” concept.........half jokingly I said something like....”No time like the present huh?”......fast forward a couple years and we have the release of critically Acclaimed Dr. John Louis Armstrong tribute album “Ske Dat De Dat - The Spirit of Satch.” And what a wonderful night of music it was last Saturday for the packed house at the Joy Theatre. Throughout the evening Mac shared front of stage stage with Terence Blanchard, Nicholas Payton and James Andrews, and was backed by an orchestra led by his music director Sarah Morrow............From the get go thru the funeral march rendition of “When the Saints Go Marching in” , Dr. John appeared to be on cloud nine, along with everyone in attendance, including this friend/photographer. What a magical evening..........here are some of the stills from the show.....enjoy! Jerry ;-) More images and a musical slideshow can be seen at http://www.nativeorleanian.org/dr_john_record_release_spirit_of_satch_joy_theatre_9_20_14
