Needless to say, my man Kermit and anybody that was at Tips last Thursday night had a great time......my only regret was not being able to cut away from a commitment early enough to see Meschiya Lake who played prior to Kermit.....I always like to catch Kermit when he makes it Uptown to Tipitinas. I particularly enjoy the unpredictability of these gigs......and apparently the pretty much packed downstairs at Tips did also.....especially the ladies......As always Kermit brings special guests along, like my good friend James “The Sleeping Giant” Winfield and Glen David Andrews, among others for this show. I also met up with some clients from Russia, The Igor Butman Jazz Orchestra et al who made it over to Tips after a gig across the lake........and of course they had a blast forming their own impromptu Second Line-ish<br/>dance gauntlet from the stage to the sound board at one point during the show.....A great tune up before the big show at NOCCA the next night where The Igor Butman Jazz Orchestra and Delfeayo Marsalis and the Uptown Jazz Orchestra traded licks for a couple hours. Over the weekend I was able to attend OffBeat’s 2013 Best of The Beat Music Awards which took place at Generations Hall. My good friend Cyril Neville received his well deserved Lifetime Achievement Award earlier in the week at the music business awards, and along with the other awards presented on this evening, the highlight of the night for me would be a tribute set with the likes of Charlie Wooton, Tim Green, Cranston Clements, Walter “Wolfman” Washington, Allen Toussaint, Deri Tucker, Papa Mali, Davell Crawford, Rockin’ Dopsie, Jr., Gaynielle Neville, Johnny Sansone, Willie Green, Yadonna West and more...... cyril_neville_best_of_the_beat_awards_jm_nofp_011814_037

there were times during that set that I thought I was back at Jimmy's Music Club jammin with Cyril Neville and the Uptown Allstars years ago......Congrats to my man Cyril Neville “The Uptown Ruler” for the well deserved recognition and accolades.
