Super Moon over New Orleans March 19th 2011Here are a couple shots of the “Super Moon” back on March 19th. Wasn’t able to get any horizon images, as I forgot about it completely. But I was able to compose with elements outside my front and back door, hence the “Native Orleanian Super Moon.” Enjoy!!
Papa Grows Funk recording at The Music Shed with Allen ToussaintBack on March 24th, I did a photo shoot for new client John Gros and Papa Grows Funk over at The Music Shed Studio in New Orleans. This type of gig is one of my favorite things to do, capturing the vibe during the creative process in the recording studio. On this day, Allen Toussaint was in the house helping out with production. There is no release day set for the new cd as of yet, but it is certain to make some noise in the New Orleans music scene when the new funky grooves are unleashed. Papa Grows Funk is led by John Gros on the Hammond B3, June Yamagishi (Wild Magnolias) on guitar, Marc Pero (Smilin’ Myron) on bass, Jason Mingledorff (Galactic) on saxophone and Jeffery “Jellybean” Alexander (Jon Cleary), who replaced Russell Batiste, Jr. in 2005, on drums. You can catch Papa Grows Funk regularly on Monday nights at the Maple Leaf Bar in New Orleans. I have also added a musical slideshow on my website at http://nativeorleanian.com/portfolio/French Quarter Festival 2011 marketing postersI am honored that French Quarter Festival has used my images of good friend Little Freddie King on widely distributed marketing posters for this year’s French Quarter Festival and Kick off Party…..;-) New Oil Slick immediately off the coast of Grand Isle LouisianaOn March 18, 2011, I took a flight over the Gulf Coast with Bonny Schumaker of On Wings of Care, http://onwingsofcare.org/ from Horn Island Mississippi all the way to Raccoon Island to check on the status of wildlife, marshes, and other impacts from the BP Oil Spill. When we were slightly east of Grand Isle and Grand Terre island I started to see those familiar reddish streaks in the water, which extended from east of Grand Isle, Elmer’s Island, where it was very heavy, and past Fourchon almost to Timbalier Bay. I was hoping it was a red algae bloom especially after I saw pods of dolphin swimming in the red tide, but after submitting a few images to a marine biologist, I was informed that there was no way it could be algae, the temperature is not hot enough. Unfortunately there has been another spill. The exact source has yet to be determined but Bonny is flying out again today to try and track the source of the oil. As we all remember, BP’s Macondo well spewed more than 200 million gallons of crude into the Gulf last year. See the rest of my coverage from mid may up to date at See the rest of my coverage from mid may up to date at http://nativeorleanian.com/category/bp-oil-spill/ Johnny Sansone at Snug Harbor in New OrleansI caught a great show with Johnny Sansone over at Snug Harbor right before Mardi Gras a couple weeks ago, really filled up that room with his powerful harp playing, backed up by a great band including one of my favorite piano players Bob Andrews….While in Colorado with the VOW Allstars in early February, I also had the opportunity to listen to an unmastered copy of Johnny’s new cd coming out around Jazz Fest, some of his most powerful stuff to date and in my opinion one of his best, a real treat!! Be on the look out for this one…..
