Every once in a while, (or every day perhaps), I am reminded why we are so damn spoiled to live here New Orleans. The pulse of the culture(s) of south Louisiana beat's within all of us and it's misty dew(if one chooses to receive) protects us from the tragedy of a mundane existence. The Voice of the Wetlands Allstars played last night for the Harvest the Music series at Lafayette Square to a pretty large crowd as expected. This was the second time in a few weeks I have seen the band with Johnny Vidacovich and Stanton Moore both on drums, last night simultaneously.......now that's pretty damn special......and as Johnny leaves for another gig, Terrence Higgens plops down in his seat and takes over without missin a beat. Somethin else was different last night too......Cyril Neville and Big Chief Monk Boudreaux are on the Blues Cruise so they weren't avail., which at first thought is kinda sacrilegious......

Was able to make it by the Crescent City Blues and BBQ Fest over the weekend to see a couple of my favorite guitarists, good friend John Mooney who way slayin it in a large way, Sonny Landreth and a little lagniappe with Alvin Youngblood Hart. On Sunday I headed back over for a few hours primarily to see 10 yr old guitarist phenom Brandon Niederauer who I had seen a few youtube video's of him playin with Troy Turner on Bourbon Street.

On Sunday I headed back over for a few hours primarily to see 10 yr old guitarist phenom Brandon Niederauer who I had seen a few youtube video's of him playin with Troy Turner on Bourbon Street. I talked to Troy Turner before the Brandon went up and slayed it with the Lee Boys playin Hendrix's Voodoo Chile. You see, a long time ago I used to make regular trips(almost weekly up to Baton Rouge to see this 14yr old guitar phenom named Troy Turner who I caught wind of a few months after one of my heroes, Stevie Ray Vaughn, tragically passed away. Those shows renewed my faith that someone would be able to pick up the torch where Stevie left it and bring it to another level......kinda get the same feeling from Brandon Niederauer, who is even younger than Troy was when I first saw his magic. Keep your eyes and ears out for Brandon, cause if the stars line up properly, we will be hearing from this kid for a long long time

I talked to Troy Turner before  Brandon went up and slayed it with the Lee Boys playin Hendrix's Voodoo Chile. You see, a long time ago I used to make regular trips(almost weekly) up to Baton Rouge to see this 14yr old guitar phenom named Troy Turner who I caught wind of a few months after one of my heroes, Stevie Ray Vaughn, tragically passed away. Those shows renewed my faith that someone would be able to pick up the torch where Stevie left it and bring it to another level......kinda get the same feeling from Brandon Niederauer, who is even younger than Troy was when I first saw his magic. Keep your eyes and ears out for Brandon, cause if the stars line up properly, we will be hearing from this kid for a long long time.......also caught a couple other great sets Sunday by Beverly Guitar Watkins and The Mighty Sam McClain.....

Another killer afternoon of music last week with Papa Mali and the Revivalists Harvest the Music appearance in Lafayette Square. Papa Mali was joined onstage by Robert Mercurio on bass, Ed Williams of the Revivalists on Pedal Steel Guitar among others for his set which was aurally pleasing as always.....
