I've been getting my musical medicine from John Mooney since back before his “Sunday Church” shows over at Madigan's every Sunday way back when, and my man hasn't lost a step and was bringin in hard, foot stompin hard, to a mesmerized crowd at Tips........there aren't many people who could go on after the exhibition Mooney put on, but Alvin Youngblood Hart is one of them......I don't know who was the desert and who was the entree, but both were delicious......dessert was served during AYH's set when Mooney joined him on stage where they just slayed it together. And for a little more lagniappe, Colin Lake also joined AYH for a tune or 2, followed by Brent Johnson........some serious guitar slingin went down at Tips Saturday night. John also just released a new CD , John Mooney – Son & Moon: A Tribute to Son House, probably Mooney's most influential mentor.....It's an amazing CD and a must have for any fan of the blues....pick it up!!! Just ran across another Jazz Fest night shoot that I honestly didn't recall till I ran across yesterday.....The Royal Southern Brotherhood performed a tribute to the Rolling Stones' quintessential album, "Exile on Main Street" offering "Exile on Royal Street," a tribute to the Rolling Stones' LP and one of my favorites, so after a long day at Jazz fest, this was a nice treat. The thing I remember most about the show was the FIYA and I mean serious FIYA that a seemingly possessed Cyril Neville brought and poured all over the stage and crowd...the voice...the moves....Cyril had transported himself back to the 70's. Most of the night I just sat back and enjoyed the performance with a big smile on my face, but I did also manage to pop off a few stills......Enjoy!! Earlier this week I had the pleasure of doing a photo shoot for Little Freddie King over at the Living Room Recording Studios over on the West Bank. Little Freddie King is in the process of recording a new CD with 12 original tracks. little_freddie_king_living _room_studio_jm_052014_012Earlier this week I once again had the pleasure of doing a photo shoot for Little Freddie King over at the Living Room Recording Studios over on the West Bank. Little Freddie King is in the process of recording a new CD with 12 original tracks. There are two guest guitarists joining Freddie on the recording of the CD, Vasti Jackson(Freddie's Nephew) and Luke Winslow King who is a great admirer of Little Freddie King and is soaking up every minute of workin with Da King. Of course on harp is Bobby Lewis, long time bass player Anthony Anderson has had health issues that have precluded him from going forward with the band. As a result, NC import William Jordan has taken over the bass position. Mark "WIREHEAD" Bingham is at the controls, along with Chris George(owner of the Living Room) engineering. And of course "Wacko" Wade(Freddie's long time drummer) is the producer. This yet to be named CD will be unleashed on the masses later this year or early next year, so lookout world, Little Freddie King's comin your way!!
